WHO WE ARE

Where engineering and artistry meet. Having served in the US Navy from 1989 to 1996 as a radar tech, Royd is all things electronic and has the uncanny ability to fix just about anything. Paula, an artist who always has a flair for the dramatic, likes to dream things up that challenge Royd’s need to find a solution. Together, they are Steenstra Design.

Located in Bolingbrook, IL, a suburb of Chicago, they have been working for big corporations while raising their two boys. They volunteered their time with school and Boy Scouts, which didn’t leave a lot of spare time for anything else. As they face two kids in college and an empty house, it’s time to turn the page to the next chapter and have a little fun doing it. Let’s take this hobby and make it a thing!

Design, Sales, CEO

Paula is an art major from Lewis University who got her start in graphic design when the Mac came to market. Coming with a 20+ year career working on brands such as Keebler, Gatorade, Sara Lee, Tyson, Pokémon, and McDonald’s, Paula has enjoyed working with the best of the best marketers and agencies while learning the best practices and crafting her design eye every step of the way. As a result of a layoff due to the downturn of the toy industry, she suggested to Royd, “What if I consult?” and in true Royd style, he said, “If we do this, we do it the right way.” And Steenstra Design was born.

Woodworker, IT, CFO

Knowing traditional school wasn’t for him, Royd enlisted in the US Navy in 1989 – he served as a radar tech in the Gulf War, Desert Storm, and Somalia. Royd is a passionate electronic technician with 25+ years of experience with Eaton Corporation. He is a dedicated and loyal employee with a work ethic second to none. Thorough and focused, he brings this philosophy in everything he does, a great balance to Paula’s vivid imagination.
